Ordinarily, the resolv.conf(5) file is managed dynamically by various network service daemons. This is the default, and is intended for laptops and other highly mobile systems which may connect to different networks. It also works well for many desktop and server systems, so long as the network infrastructure is perfect. An IP address is a number used to identify a network interface on a computer on a local network or the Internet. In the currently most widespread version of IP (IPv4), this number is encoded in 32 bits, and is usually represented as 4 numbers separated by periods (e.g. 192.168..1), each number being between 0 and 255 (inclusive, which corresponds to 8 bits of data). On recent Linux distributions such as Debian 9 Stretch, networking can be managed by the Network Manager. It makes configuring a network really easy. Network Manager has command line utilities for network configuration. If you have minimal server version of Debian 9 Stretch installed, you may not have Network Manager installed. Your distribution may provide a package (e.g. network-manager-strongswan on Debian/Ubuntu). Otherwise, you have to build strongSwan from source. Building from source¶ To build from source you additionally need the NetworkManager headers for the strongSwan NM backend:

So I need to add the static route for Eth1. 10.0.0.0/8 via 172.21.32.3. I restart network services and see the route in netstat -nr. However, when I unplug the Eth1 cable, the route is STILL IN THE TABLE.

David Paleino (Cc'ed), original developer and current Debian package maintainer of wicd stated multiple times[1][2] that he has no more time to work on wicd. Is it possible to get Network Manager working on Raspbian? It's easy to install with: sudo apt-get install network-manager but I couldn't get it to manage any of my connections. Unfortunately, it looks like only a old version of NM is available in the Debian repo. Ordinarily, the resolv.conf(5) file is managed dynamically by various network service daemons.
